At present handling of footnotes is clunky, with each footnote having its own heading to enable automatic generation of links. Change this to make use of GitHub's [Markdown Footnotes](https://github.blog/changelog/2021-09-30-footnotes-now-supported-in-markdown-fields/) feature.
