I think I'm done with most of the re-factoring on this. I've created a notebook that evaluates some of the methods. Maybe play around with this if you have some time and let me know what you think.

I guess next steps would be tie this to the yaml file or some other type of configuration, as well as testing with a legit HLCM. Most of the work here is just trying to work out the core logic.
