A Software-Based Quantum Operating System MVP for Quantum Workload and Resource Management
QuantumOS is a software-based Quantum Operating System MVP designed to explore how quantum computing workloads can be organized, managed, and executed through a higher-level software layer.
The project focuses on building an experimental environment for managing quantum workloads and exploring concepts such as quantum resource management, workload scheduling, execution workflows, and quantum/quantum-inspired optimization.
Note: QuantumOS is a software research prototype and does not implement a physical quantum operating system or quantum hardware.
Quantum computing introduces new challenges in how computational workloads, quantum circuits, resources, and execution processes are managed.
Traditional operating-system concepts cannot simply be transferred directly to quantum computers because quantum workloads involve concepts such as:
- Qubits
- Quantum circuits
- Quantum gates
- Measurement
- Quantum execution backends
- Limited quantum resources
- Circuit execution constraints
QuantumOS explores how a software management layer could organize these components and provide a foundation for future quantum computing systems.
The long-term vision of QuantumOS is to develop a software platform that can intelligently manage quantum workloads across different quantum computing environments.
