- Problem statement:
PixelPlayerOSS already uses colors derived from the current album artwork in the Now Playing screen. However, the album-art color palette is not applied consistently across the rest of the app.
Describe the solution you'd like
Proposed solution:
Extend the album-art-based dynamic color palette to the entire application.
When a song is playing, PixelPlayerOSS could extract a suitable color palette from its album artwork and use it throughout the UI, including:
- Backgrounds
- Navigation bar
- Library screens
- Cards
- Buttons
- Menus
- Player controls
- Other Material 3 UI elements
The palette should update smoothly when the currently playing song changes, while maintaining sufficient contrast and readability.
It would also be useful to provide an option in Settings to enable or disable dynamic album-art theming.
-
Alternatives considered:
Keep the current static/application-wide theme and only apply album-art colors to the Now Playing screen.
-
Scope:
Application-wide Material 3 theming and dynamic color palette generation based on the currently playing album artwork.
-
Mockup / reference:
Rhythm is an example of a music player where the album artwork influences the color palette across the application, rather than only the Now Playing screen.
