A Windows CEP panel that runs the GraXpert stand-alone CLI from Adobe Photoshop and imports the processed result into the source document as a new layer.
Current version: v0.9.6 · Supported CLI: GraXpert CLI 3.0.x
The source pixel layer is not modified directly. The result is added as a new layer immediately above the layer selected when processing began.
This is an independent, unofficial third-party Photoshop panel. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially supported by the GraXpert project or Adobe.
The GraXpert executable is not included in this repository or its release packages. Users must install GraXpert separately and comply with the applicable terms and licenses for GraXpert and Adobe Photoshop. - GraXpert AI Auto workflow
- When a Photoshop selection exists, fills the foreground with a virtual sky before AI analysis
- Corrects only the selected sky and merges it with the original foreground into a new pixel layer
- Without a selection, processes the entire current layer using the standard GraXpert AI workflow
- Sample Point workflows using RBF, Splines, or Kriging
- Uses the Photoshop selection as the Sample Point generation and analysis area
- Add, delete, and move Points in the standalone Gradient Editor
- Full-screen Gradient Editor with Escape to restore the original window size
- Automatic grid generation and Point quality checks
- Auto Stretch preview applied equally to the original and result
- Full-resolution original/result review before applying to Photoshop
- Optional hidden Background Model layer
Key workflow — using a Photoshop selection with Sample Points
First select the sky area in Photoshop. Then use the Lasso tool in
Subtract from selectionmode to remove the Milky Way, nebulae, and other astronomical structures that should not be included in the background model. Automatic Point generation places a sample only when its entire sample box fits inside the remaining background-candidate area.If there is no selection, the current layer mask is used. If neither is available, the entire current layer is analyzed. This area is used only for Sample Point generation and background analysis. Background Extraction is applied to the entire current layer and does not create a result-layer mask.
- Runs GraXpert Denoise
- Adjustable Denoise Strength
- Adjustable GPU Batch Size
- Applies a Photoshop selection or the current layer mask as the result-layer mask
- Places the result directly above the layer selected when processing began
- Automatic system-language detection
- Manual Korean or English selection in Settings
- The main panel and Gradient Editor use the same language
- Optional local file-based automation channel, disabled by default
- Runs AI Auto Background Extraction or Noise Reduction through the panel's existing workflow
- Uses the current Photoshop selection for AI sky correction
- Does not expose Sample Point or Gradient Editor controls
- Includes JSX launchers for using GraXpert as the final step of a Photoshop Action
- Includes a ready-made
GraXpert_Actions.atnAction Set
- Windows
- Adobe Photoshop with CEP Legacy Extension support
- GraXpert CLI 3.0.x
- An RGB Photoshop document
The default GraXpert installation path is:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\GraXpert\GraXpert.exe
The panel checks this path automatically. If the file is not found, it uses GraXpert.exe from PATH or the executable selected in Settings.
- Install GraXpert.
- Close Photoshop completely.
- Extract the repository or release ZIP.
- Run
Install_Windows.bat. - Choose whether to install the optional Photoshop Action integration. This step requests administrator permission because it writes to the Photoshop installation folder.
- Confirm that every installation step reports
[OK]. - Restart Photoshop.
- Open
Window > Extensions (Legacy) > GraXpert.
For a non-interactive panel-and-Action install, run Install_Windows.bat /with-actions. To install only the optional integration later, close Photoshop and run Install_Photoshop_Actions.ps1 with Windows PowerShell. Then load GraXpert_Actions.atn from the Photoshop Actions panel and enable Allow External Automation in the GraXpert panel settings.
Installation directory:
%APPDATA%\Adobe\CEP\extensions\GraXpert-Photoshop-Panel
To check the installation, close Photoshop and run Diagnose_Install.bat.
- Select the layer to process.
- Select
AI Autoin theBackground Extractiontab. - Adjust Advanced Settings if needed.
- Click the run button at the bottom of the panel.
For either workflow, select the layer to process and select the sky in Photoshop first. Use the Lasso tool in Subtract from selection mode to remove the Milky Way, nebulae, and other astronomical structures.
Use this workflow to create automatic Points and run the process directly from the main panel.
- Select the
Sample Pointmethod. - In
Show Advanced Settings, chooseRBFfor Point Interpolation. - Click
Auto Generateto create Points inside the remaining background-candidate area. - Check the Point count and quality status.
- Click
Run GraXpert Gradient Removalat the bottom of the panel.
This is the recommended workflow when you want to inspect Point positions and the expected result.
- Select the
Sample Pointmethod and clickOpen Gradient Editor. - Confirm that Points are distributed across the remaining background-candidate area.
- Delete Points over astronomical structures or move them to real background locations.
- Click
Generate Quick Previewand compare the original with the result. - When the result is satisfactory, click
Apply to Photoshopto generate the full-resolution GraXpert result.
- Select the layer to process.
- Open the
Noise Reductiontab. - Start with the default Strength of
0.50. - If GPU memory is insufficient, lower Batch Size to
2or1. - Click the run button.
Run the Node test suite:
node tests\run-tests.jsRun the Photoshop integration tests:
powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\tests\Run_Photoshop_Integration.ps1The integration tests create temporary Photoshop documents and verify TIFF round trips, result-layer placement, selections, and layer-mask handling.
Create the Windows release ZIP and SHA-256 checksum:
powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\Build_Release.ps1The default build verifies version strings and required files, runs the Node tests, and creates these files in dist:
GraXpert-Photoshop-Panel-v0.9.6-win.zip
GraXpert-Photoshop-Panel-v0.9.6-win.zip.sha256
To include the Photoshop integration tests:
powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\Build_Release.ps1 -RunPhotoshopIntegrationUse -SkipTests only when tests are intentionally being skipped. Release packages do not include the GraXpert executable or local test images.
Close Photoshop completely, then run Uninstall_Windows.bat.
The uninstaller can also remove the optional JSX and ATN files. For a non-interactive removal of both the shared CEP debug setting and Action integration files, run:
To also remove PlayerDebugMode when no other unsigned CEP extensions require it:
Uninstall_Windows.bat /remove-debugUninstall_Windows.bat /remove-debug /remove-actionsIf the GraXpert Action Set is still shown in Photoshop after its files are removed, remove the loaded set from the Actions panel menu.
