🧪 EWC3 Labs

Welcome to EWC3 Labs — a skunkworks of code, plastic, and canine gaseous emissions.

We build smarter tools, better mods, and deeply unnecessary upgrades. From 3D printing to automation scripts, parametric design to AI-assisted chaos.

We build things the way they should have been built the first time.

I'm Wilson — nerd-programmer-IT-systems guy, toolmaker, and creative engineer behind EWC3 Labs. I fix broken ideas out of spite and turn half-finished concepts into (hopefully) elegant, modular, open designs — because wrongness bothers me, and I have to make it work the way it should have in the first place. And iterate until my neurospicy noggin is satisfied.

If you’ve ever said “Why didn’t they just…?” — I might have already done it, or at least thought about it really hard. This lab is where ideas grow legs, wag tails, and sometimes catch fire.

Your support helps keep the tools flowing — no paywalls, no closed STLs, no half-assed solutions. Just open-source, over-engineered weirdness made useful.

🧠 Projects

Project What it is
excel-power-query-editor Edit Power Query M as files in VS Code — which means Copilot, Claude, or any coding agent can work on your queries — and sync back to Excel, including workbooks Excel already has open. Built on the excellent excel-datamashup by Vladinator, inspired by EditExcelPQM.
ewc3-recall-tape Tape for OneNote. Finally. Hide answers, reveal them later, study active recall directly in your notes — the Goodnotes-style tape tool OneNote never shipped.
ewc3-docs-tools Documentation that cannot quietly rot: prose wrapped to render width, links verified (including their case), and numbers that come from the thing they describe. Zero dependencies.
ewc3-test-hole-generator Parametric OpenSCAD test-hole plate. Print one, measure what your printer actually does, stop guessing at clearances.

🧐 Philosophy

  • Design with intent — Not just "cool," but useful, reusable, and open-source.
  • Toolify everything — If we use it twice (or—who am I kidding—even once), it gets versioned and published.
  • No gatekeeping — All skill levels welcome. Hackers, tinkerers, pug supervisors, bulldog lovers.
  • Snark is encouraged — Humor, clarity, and style are features, not bugs.

🐾 Shop Gremlin Program

Yes, our canine lab assistants (pugs, bulldogs, and mutts alike) supervise QA and design meetings. No, they do not accept pull requests (but they will accept treats).

🛠️ Coming Soon

Music Forensics Workbench — an open-source microscope for recorded music.

It started because Wilson got tired of replaying the acoustic intro to Over the Hills and Far Away trying to work out what Jimmy Page is actually doing rhythmically, and did not feel like drawing measure lines on paper. That is the entire origin story.

The interesting part is not audio in, sheet music out. It is:

audio → evidence → competing hypotheses → interpretation

Every analyzer — DSP, ML, or a human overriding both — produces a hypothesis with provenance and a confidence, and none of them owns the truth. Click a note it claims is an eighth-note G and ask why, and it shows you the spectral ridge, the pitch trajectory, the onset transient, the beat-grid relationship, which stem it came from, and which model said so. Continuous pitch is kept as a trajectory rather than flattened to MIDI, so bends and slides survive as bends and slides. Tab is part of the core representation, not a late exporter, because the same note lives at several string/fret positions and choosing between them is a real optimization problem.

Design principle: expose the evidence, not just the answer.

Also in the pipeline: parametric CAD repos, Klipper mods and hardware templates, and ESP32/ATtiny automation bits.
