Work and Contact load an unused italic font eagerly, use maximum quality for local covers, and deliver the original oversized Contact portrait. The Contact intro also starts hidden until its reveal script runs.

Preload only the normal serif font, retain italic on demand, use quality 80 for local covers and a responsive Astro Image for the same Contact portrait. Render the Contact intro and portrait immediately. Preserve text, original images, dimensions and visual styling.

Validation: regression failed with script requests blocked before the change and now passes; full 14-test Chromium suite, Astro Check (60 files, zero issues), asset checks, Vercel and Node builds. Mobile inspection preserves 4:5 portrait crop and no overflow; independent review found no blockers. Node preview portrait generation reduces the 156 KiB source to a 63 KiB variant at 960px.

Three production Lighthouse runs per page establish a pre-change median LCP of 3.96s for Work and 3.65s for Contact. Post-deployment measurements will use the same profile. Local measurements indicate improvement but are not field Core Web Vitals or proof of meeting the 2.5s target.
