plugin not working in gedit 3.18.3

Hi,

I have Lubuntu 16.04 and gedit 3.18.3.

I followed your instructions. At first, the plugin showed up in the plugin list in preferences, but the box was uncheckable. A tooltip showed the error,
Error: Plugin loader "python" was not found.

I searched. People said to change, in ToggleMenu.plugin,
Loader: python
to
Loader: python3

That made the box checkable and the error disappear, but I still could not make the menu disappear with Ctl + Alt + m

What else should I try?

Haven't used gedit for years now, but could try to find solution in some free time. Not promising anything yet.
