Status: PARKED by decision of Sep 23 2026, not merging. The design doc stands as the record of the evaluation. Summary of why we stopped: in-process vantage point cannot solve the fleet-level problem the cost framing requires; metadata inference is weaker evidence than usage-based retention (Grafana Adaptive Metrics); async fail-open vs startup registration blunts reduce mode; most meters belong to frameworks, not hand-written code, so the review surface is small. Revisit trigger: real metric-hygiene pain in a live project, or if we ever want the OTel Collector route where the vantage point actually fits. Branch kept for reference. |

Design for a new
typesafe-ai-java-micrometermodule: in-process metric triage for Micrometer inspired by ishantanu/jevmetrics (OTel Collector processor). Annotate mode first (companion jev.metric.* gauges), reduce mode second (MeterFilter deny below keep threshold + protection allowlist), async assessment with bounded cache, Spring Boot auto-config in the starter. Review before coding.
