This dependency is obsolete on my Linux system. I'm using Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS, which has official support through April 2027 (and extended support for another 5 years).

It’s not something that can be updated, so I can’t use their build.

I found an alternative: an AppImage from the folks at pkgforge that includes all the dependencies and updates automatically.

Would you consider including AppImage?

There's too many of these package managers, who is going to maintain? I don't regularly have a Linux machine to test on. On the other hand, we have builds hosted here. Does it not work?

AppImage is a single binary that includes "almost" all dependencies and works on "most" Linux distributions. It is similar to Flatpak and Snap, with the difference that AppImage can be portable (like Windows portables).

However, it has some drawbacks. The AppImage packaging method does not include system dependencies such as GLIBC_2.38, making it incompatible with older versions.

pkgforge uses a different method to package AppImages; it includes all dependencies and can be used on very old distros. It also includes an automatic updater, based on zsync, which downloads only the updated parts—not the entire package—with a single click on any Linux distribution.

There’s no need to package everything from scratch; you can do it with the Linux binaries you already have, which is easier. But if you prefer, you can include a link to the AppImage from pkgforge.
