Summary

Nothing in the report's Top regressions list showed that a row could be opened. The only hint was a faint 11.5px ▸, and the row didn't react to hover, so it looked like a static line.

  • In each section, the worst regression starts expanded (loop.first). Seeing one open also tells readers the others open.
  • Each row has a boxed caret and a "Show details" / "Hide details" label on the right. The label switches with CSS alone, via details[open]. At phone width only the box shows.
  • Hovering the row lightens it and turns the caret and label green. Keyboard users get a visible focus outline.
  • Printing expands every regression, but only in Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge), the ones that support ::details-content. Other browsers print the rows collapsed.

Everything is CSS; the report still ships no JavaScript.

Testing

  • New test test_top_regressions_open_first_and_hint_expandable: it failed before the template change and passes after.
  • pre-commit run --all-files passes: ruff, ruff format, mypy --strict.
  • pytest: 2447 pass, 1 fails. test_the_vendored_schema_matches_the_server_export compares this repo's schema copy with a sibling evalshift-server checkout, and the two have drifted locally. It fails the same way on main and is skipped in CI, where no sibling checkout exists.
  • Rendered a real run (r_20260918_planner_31b276) in headless Chromium at 1320px and 390px wide and checked it by eye.

The only cue that a regression row expands was an 11.5px dim caret, so
the rows read as static. Each section's worst regression now starts
open, every row carries a boxed caret and a "Show details" / "Hide
details" hint (text dropped at phone width), and the header reacts on
hover and shows a focus ring. Print expands every regression where the
engine supports ::details-content. CSS only; the report still ships no
JavaScript.
